FAQs

What is Remedi GROUND Pretreatment?

Remedi GROUND Pretreatment is a liquid accelerator, emulsifier, and soil conditioner designed to prepare petroleum-impacted soil and similar treatment areas for biological remediation. It is intended to support a coordinated remediation program used with the applicable GROUND BIO liquid or powder formulation—not as a stand-alone cleanup product.

What does pretreatment do before bioremediation?

Petroleum hydrocarbons can adhere to soil particles or exist as separate oil phases, which can limit contact between microbes and the contamination. A pretreatment is designed to condition the treatment area and help make hydrocarbons more available to the biological remediation system.

  • Helps emulsify or disperse oil and grease.
  • Supports more even distribution of treatment materials.
  • Helps prepare impacted soil for microbial activity.
  • Supports coordinated application of the biological treatment system.
What types of sites is it intended for?

GROUND Pretreatment is intended for professional treatment of compatible petroleum-impacted environments,
including:

  • Contaminated soil and land-remediation areas
  • Oil and grease impacts
  • Petroleum-handling and storage areas
  • Spill-response and site-remediation projects
  • Other areas identified in an approved remediation plan
Can I use Pretreatment by itself?

No. GROUND Pretreatment is designed as a support product. It conditions the treatment area but does not replace the
microbial formula, source removal, soil management, testing, or engineered controls required for a complete
remediation program.
Use it only with the applicable GROUND BIO formula and according to the current label and site-specific treatment
plan.

How should GROUND Pretreatment be applied?

Follow the current product label, Safety Data Sheet, and site-specific remediation plan. Apply using the appropriate backpack, garden, truck, or trailer spray equipment for the treatment area.

  • Shake gently before use.
  • Review the approved dilution ratio and application plan.
  • Mix with water and compatible GROUND BIO treatment when specified.
  • Apply evenly to the affected soil or treatment zone.
  • Use enough coverage to contact the impacted material.
  • Continue with the required biological treatment and monitoring steps.
Does Pretreatment make petroleum contamination disappear immediately?

No. Pretreatment helps prepare hydrocarbons for biological treatment; it does not provide instant contaminant removal. Cleanup progress depends on contaminant type and concentration, soil characteristics, moisture, oxygen, nutrients,
temperature, pH, treatment contact, and the overall remediation design. Use field sampling and laboratory analysis to evaluate progress and confirm cleanup objectives.

Is the formula suitable for direct environmental release?

The supplied product information states that the formula uses direct-release ingredients listed on the U.S. EPA Safer Chemical Ingredients List and describes the ingredients as rapidly biodegradable. That supports an ingredient-selection approach for outdoor or direct-release uses. It does not replace site permits, label directions, local discharge rules, spill-response requirements, or a site-specific environmental review.

Is GROUND Pretreatment an EPA-registered remediation product?

The presence of ingredients on the EPA Safer Chemical Ingredients List is not the same as EPA registration, EPA endorsement, or certification of the finished product. The list evaluates individual ingredients against Safer Choice criteria; it does not approve every finished formulation or its use at every site. Use only claims that are supported by the final product documentation and applicable regulatory requirements.

What else is needed for effective bioremediation?

Pretreatment works best as part of a complete remediation plan that may include:

  • A compatible biological treatment product
  • Adequate soil moisture and oxygen
  • Soil turning, aeration, or engineered mixing where appropriate
  • Nutrient management when needed
  • Containment or recovery of free petroleum product
  • Field monitoring, sampling, and regulatory documentation
What safety practices should I follow?

Follow the final label and Safety Data Sheet. Wear the required personal protective equipment, prevent unnecessary runoff, and use equipment suited to the site. Petroleum-impacted soil and water can create separate fire, vapor, health, and regulatory hazards. Work under the appropriate health-and-safety plan and environmental permits, especially near drains, waterways, public areas, or sensitive habitats.
